[MF] The Colorful World (Warning:Emotinal)

The sun shines through the clouds in the dark bright grey sky as the sound of dripping water can be heard all around as the slanted roofs of the surrounding buildings drip the extra water onto the dark pavement. I keep my head down as I rush past the other people on the street. Most of them are couples and businessmen or women. I occasionally glance up to make sure I am still on my path to work. I don't look at the signs because they offer me nothing since all I see is shades of bland grey. I imagine what the colors might look like but I have no idea what it might look like. I have seen in black and white for my entire life just like everyone else. Until you find your soulmate. Others say that the minute they met the love of their life, the world would become the most colorful and exuberant thing in the world. I have always dreamt of seeing the world in all of the reds and greens and blues. I always wanted to see the sun set with the woman of my dreams. I look up to make sure I'm still on the right path to the office when the sun peaks out of the clouds. I shut my eyes to shield the blinding light. I can feel the warmth and i keep my eyes closed until I stop feeling it. I open my eyes to see the grey cloud once again but there is something off about them. I look down to the street and im blown away by the rainbow of colours. The blues and reds and greens. I look around when I locked eyes with her. The woman staring at the world around her just like I am. Her emerald green eyes shimmering in the light of the world around her. She is stunning. Her eyes meet mine and she smiles. I take a step towards her as she does the same. We meet in the middle of the sidewalk and she immediately embraced me her chocolate brown arms wrap around me as I hugged her back. I feel at home. She said her name was lucy We exchange numbers and we both go our separate ways, we both need to go to our jobs but today instead of hating the world and my job I am looking at the world around me. The colors fill my soul with the love and affection of the most intense of relationships. The world looks so new and grand. I arrive at work and damn near dance into the white and grey building. I look at all the paintings and pictures around me with love and affection. The day ends and I leave the building looking up at the now blue sky, the bright golden sun beating down on me. I pull out my mobile phone and dial the number Lucy gave me. It rings twice then I hear her voice. The words sounded almost like audible candy. We set up a date to have some dinner. I rushed home and changed into street clothes. Nothing extensive, just some jeans and a shirt with a flannel over the top of it all. I get to the restaurant a few minutes early and get a table. I seat myself and almost immediately she walks in wearing a slim fitting dress. It is a beautiful orange. Nothing too fancy but still beautiful nonetheless. She takes her seat right in front of me at the table. Her beautiful face lights up as she talks. We laugh and joke about our new found appreciation for colors and the world around us. This was the first date of many, We went on one every friday. Everything from movies to picanicks. We had just had our year anniversary when we found out that she was pregnant. It was the happiest thing in my life. It seems like the colors brightened with the news. It was a month later when the color faded again. We found out that she had stage three lung cancer. She died in my arms a year later. Longer than any doctor would have guessed. That was 3 years ago. Now I'm walking my daughter through the cemetery. The grey headstones gleaming in the midday sun. I still remember what that yellow looks like but it has been so long since I have seen colors. I kneel down on the grey grass as our daughter does so too. I read the headstone. Lucie, a loving wife and giving person. A single tear falls from my eye as I look at my little girl. Her eyes gleam with an emerald tint. I look up to the sky as rain begins to fall. But there are no storm clouds. Only the beautiful blue sky.
